Not everyone wants to break their bank to keep their floors clean.
And luckily, you don’t have to!
As time passes the competition in the budget vacuum market increases, and this is good news for buyers. Unfortunately, this also means that’s consumers have to choose from an ever-growing list of budget vacuums.
This list will be of help to those seeking out the best bang for their buck when it comes to buying a vacuum for their home.
Dirt Devil Simpli-Stik
About the Simpli-Stik
Dirt Devil is a brand often recognizable by their ‘devil-red’ vacuums.
Odds are that someone you know has had a Dirt Devil stuffed in the back of their closet for quick cleanups. And that’s probably what this product, the Simpli-Stik, is best for.
It is by far the cheapest vacuum on this list, and it provides a relatively decent clean at the price.
The Simpli-Stik is a lightweight, versatile vacuum that is extremely affordable. It is bagless and comes with a 16-ft power cord.
The lower part of the vacuum is easily detachable for quick hand-vac needs, and the vacuum comes with an attachment to reach into smaller crevices.
Additionally, the vacuum works on both hard floor and carpet, delivering an average amount of suction and cleaning on both.
Now for the negatives.
As far as general performance goes, the Dirt Devil actually outperforms its very low price.
However, at this price one can’t expect a high-quality machine, and the Dirt Devil shows its cheapness at times. It is prone to over-heating, and generally starts to fall apart under heavy use.
Another thing we liked about the Simpli-Stik was that the filter was rinseable. And it also does come with a 2-year warranty, offsetting some of the issues we had with build quality.
Overall, this is a good, cheap vacuum to have in a pinch, but don’t rely on the Simpli-Stik for all your vacuuming needs.
- Solid cleaning performance at this price range
- Very lightweight
- Very few features
- Feels cheap
- Poorly built, likely to break with heavy use
VonHaus 2 in 1 Stick Vacuum
About the VonHaus
VonHaus offers affordable and utility packed vacuum cleaners, and their 2-in-1 Stick Vacuum is comparable to the previously mentioned Dirt Devil Simpli-Stik.
The VonHaus 2-in-1 Stick Vacuum offers much of the same utility as the Simpli-Stik, but it comes with the benefit of a few more features, and a more durable build.
Coming equipped with a 1.3L dustbin, and a 19.5 foot quick-release cord, the VonHaus 2-in-1 allows for thorough cleaning of all the areas of your home, including those hard to reach places, without the need to pause and empty the dustbin.
Similar to the Simpli-Stik, with a single button push the vacuum can detach into a smaller hand-held unit.
The VonHaus 2-in-1 also comes with a crevice attachment, an extension hose, a small brush, and a shoulder strap.
If you’re looking for a vacuum similar to the Simpli-Stik, with a little more durability and features, then the VonHaus 2-in-1 is a good alternative.
The performance of the vacuum is average at best, and at times we actually preferred the cheaper Simpli-Stik.
The vacuum also seems to contain more dust than the average vacuum, apparently thanks to the built-in HEPA filter.
Some buyers have raised similar concerns to the Simpli-Stik about over-heating, though not as frequently
Overall, we liked the superior design and build of the VonHaus 2-in-1 over the Simpli-Stik but would prefer a stronger cleaning performance.
- Decent features and accessories for this price range
- Less dust blowback while vacuuming
- Larger dustbin
- Average cleaning performance
Bissell Zing Canister
About the Bissel Zing Canister
Bissell is one of the very best brands at producing affordable vacuums that also perform well.
The Zing Canister is another bagless vacuum, though it is the first on the list where the dustbin and motor is separate from the rest of the machine.
The Bissell Zing Canister is also the first on the list that provides above-average vacuuming capability. The suction is extremely powerful for a vacuum in this price range, which we liked.
A feature we liked was that the brushes on the vacuum floor attachment would retract by simply stepping on a button. This makes it easy to switch between hardwood and carpet floor cleaning.
Some of the features and accessories that the Zing Canister includes are: an easy empty dirt cup, a crevice tool, dusting brush, and 15 feet of automatic cord rewind.
Initially, we hated how the canister and vacuum were separate. The canister often gets stuck on different piece of furniture, or the hose can detach too easily.
These design flaws can be a huge turn off to potential buyers. The only solution seems to be holding the canister in your off hand as seen below.
We can appreciate that the design was intended for more maneuverability, but as is the case with all dragging floor canister vacuums, practicality was sacrificed.
Here is a full review of the Zing Canister if you are looking for more information:
However, we liked the cleaning performance of the Zing Canister, and we think that this is a worthwhile purchase at an affordable price (around $50 USD).
However, there are better options to come.
- Very good cleaning performance for price range
- Powerful suction
- Versatile cleaning for all areas with attachments and separate canister
- Separate canister and vacuum (gets stuck often)
- Hose, attachments and extenders detach too often
About the AIRSWIVEL
Black+Decker is a well-known home appliance brand, and the Black+Decker AIRSWIVEL gives the reliable performance buyers would expect from the brand.
The AIRSWIVEL has a 12-inch cleaning path, a 10-foot hose length, and a 30-foot cord length.
It also has a 2L dustbin capacity, allowing you to vacuum for longer without having to empty the canister.
The AIRSWIVEL comes with an ergonomic handle and swivel steering, meaning even with the bulkier unit you will be able to maneuver comfortably.
It also comes with a pet tool, a crevice tool, a small brush, and an upholstery tool, giving you the variability to vacuum any surface easily.Additionally, at only 9 pounds it is relatively easy to bring up and down stairs.
The Black+Decker AIRSWIVEL is a solid vacuum at a still affordable price.
One concern we have is that, while it may look sturdy, the pieces feel a little lightweight and cheap compared to the build and weight of the machine.
The Black+Decker AIRSWIVEL is the first on the list that looks heavy-duty enough to tackle all of your home vacuuming needs but looks can be deceiving.
While we didn’t have any issues, and users don’t generally complain, this still doesn’t feel like a vacuum that you can’t ‘beat up’, so to speak.
Cleaning performance was average to good, though we still feel like the Bissell Zing Canister had stronger suction. We also would have liked separate modes for carpet and hardwood/tile, as seen in the Bissell Zing Canister.
If you’re looking for a good all-around vacuum for your home, the Black+Decker AIRSWIVEL is a decent choice, and is on sale quite often.
- Many different attachments for different surfaces
- Very maneuverable
- Long cord length
- Parts not as sturdy as they look
- About average cleaning performance for this price range
Dirt Devil Endura Reach
About the Endura Reach
Dirt Devil has already had one vacuum on this list, but the Endura Reach and the Simpli-Stik have little in common.
The Endura Reach is Dirt Devil’s offering for those looking for a little more from their vacuum, and it delivers.
It comes packed with great features and accessories such as a 2-in-1 dusting brush and crevice tool, rinseable filter, 25-foot quick cord release, removable wand with extension attachment, and an easy empty dustbin.
The removable wand with the extension attachment is especially useful and makes the Endura Reach really reach almost anywhere.
The vacuum is also useful on multiple floor surfaces and is about the same weight as the AIRSWIVEL meaning it won’t be too heavy or cause muscle strain after prolonged use.
The suction on this vacuum isn’t as powerful as the Bissell Zing Canister or AIRSWIVEL but allows for comfortable transfer from tile/wood to carpet without the vacuum dragging or getting stuck.
While the suction may not be as powerful, the Endura Reach still has enough suction to provide a good cleaning performance in your home.
We like the Endura Reach for many of the reasons Dirt Devil is such a popular brand. The vacuum gives a solid cleaning performance relative to price and has very few issues with maintenance or clogging.
Maybe this is due to the advertised Endura filter, which apparently removes more odour and dust than most vacuums.
Additionally, the design is not bulky and will not take up too much room in a closet.
Overall, the Endura Reach is by no means a poor purchase, and at this price point it is good value.
- Great extension wand
- Great for pet fur/hair
- Average to good cleaning performance
- Somewhat cheap build
Eureka is a brand well known for their different vacuum offerings for many price ranges and uses.
The Eureka NEU182A is one of many offerings they have under $100 and also one of their most popular vacuums.
The Eureka is a great vacuum for those that have multiple surface levels in their home, such as rugs, carpets, tile and wood of differing heights.
The Eureka NEU182A comes equipped with a dial that adjusts the height of the brushes and suction technology so as not to damage floors, and to make vacuuming easier.
Additional features include: an extra-large dustbin, quick release handle wand, washable foam filter, crevice tool, dusting brush, 25-foot cord and upholstery tool.
When it comes to cleaning performance, the Eureka offers some of the best value we have seen on this list. At a similar price to many of the others listed above, you will get cleaning performance that exceeds most, except maybe the Bissell Zing Canister.
The Eureka NEU182A is the best value offering on this list, and it is incredibly versatile and useful for any homeowner.
We did have issues with the cheap, thin plastic of the dustbin, however. We would recommend using caution when vacuuming, as a broken or shattered dustbin will render any vacuum useless.
We wish that the plastic was a little bit thicker on the dustbin, which would allow for a better vacuuming experience. Additionally, the handle wand is much too small, and in this regard, we preferred the Dust Devil Eureka Reach’s wand.
While it isn’t perfect, the Eureka NEU182A provides a useful and powerful vacuum at a great value price point.
- Best value
- Versatile, with many different attachments and good on different floor types
- Very good cleaning performance
- Somewhat cheap build
- Short handle wand
Bissell Cleanview Upright Bagless Vacuum Cleaner
About the Bissell Cleanview
Bissell has already featured once on this list with the Zing Canister, which we thought was great machine held down by bad design decisions.
The Bissell Cleanview doesn’t have that issue.
The Cleanview is everything we wished the Zing Canister was.
It’s sturdy and does not feel cheap as many of the other vacuums under $100 often do.
It comes with many of the same features and accessories we love on other models, including:
A TurboBrush tool for focusing on upholstery and smaller carpeted surfaces like carpeted stairs.
Dusting brush, crevice tools, and extension wand.
And a large dustbin, and the same versatile multi-surface options seen on the Eureka.
The vacuum weighs 15-pounds, which while heavier than all other vacuums on this list, is still light enough to move around your home. It also has the same 25-foot cord length of many other vacuums.
When it comes to cleaning performance, we found the Bissell Cleanview performed the best on this list on carpet/rugs, and at edge cleaning. It performs good but not great on hardwood or tile surfaces.
Overall, the Bissell Cleanview is without a doubt the most complete offering on this list, though it is also the most expensive.
We would have liked if a quick cord release and roll-up was included, and if it performed a little bit better on hard surfaces, but regardless we were still impressed.
We struggled to find any serious flaws with the Bissell Cleanview, and at a price of under $100 it performs well beyond what one would expect.
If you are looking for the best vacuum that you can buy under $100, we have not found one better than the Bissell Cleanview.
- Best vacuum under $100
- Great carpet and edge cleaning
- Many great features and attachments
- No quick cord release
- Not as strong of a clean on hardwood or tile
We have looked at some really great vacuums, and surprisingly most of the vacuums on this list were actually quite good machines considering their price points.
However, there are two clear winners.
If you are seriously looking for a vacuum for your home, you unfortunately won’t be finding any serious value until you hit the $50 point.
But the Eureka NEU128A is definitely worth the additional cost, and surpasses similarly priced options such as the Dust Devil Endura Reach and Black+Decker AIRSWIVEL.
We love the ability to adjust the vacuum level for different surfaces, and its cleaning performance was more than satisfactory. Our only serious flaw was the thin, cheap dustbin seems like it may break easily.
And for those looking for our personal recommendation, we have to go with the Bissell Cleanview.
While the Bissell Zing Canister actually provides a very good clean, we preferred the upright vacuum unit, and the clean it provides.
However, if you can get past the annoyance of the Bissell Zing Canister it is a good, cheaper alternative.
The Bissell Cleanview is the best vacuum one can buy for under $100, and it has earned our recommendation, even given the additional price.
